Black Capped Chickadees at Morton Wildlife Reserve

Last week I visited Morton National Wildlife Reserve in Sag Harbor. It was the first time that I was ever there and it was an amazing experience to say the least.
Upon arriving these amazing little Black Capped Chickadees greeted me very warmly. And for the first time in my life, a bird actually landed on my finger. The little chickadee was probably expecting some seeds in my hand, but unfortunately I had none to offer. Next time, I’ll bring some — definitely.

I was actually surprised to see some of these in my backyard in East Patchogue. For some reason I mistakenly thought that they were only in pretty dense forests, but that’s not the case. Just about every day now I see them jumping around on a pine tree in my backyard.
The chickadees at the Morton Reserve are very, very brave. They actually followed me along the trail. I read in the reserve’s brochure that they can get aggressive at times if they think that you have food. But I didn’t take it as aggression, just them having fun.
I wonder if I put up a bird feeder in my backyard, if the chickadees will become as confident as the ones at Morton Reserve. Does anyone have any Black Capped Chickadee stories to share?
