Osprey Hawk’s Nest — The Largest Nest I’ve Ever Seen

While hiking alongside the amazingly beautiful beach at the Morton Reserve, I came across the largest and most brilliant nest I’ve ever seen in my life — the nest was HUGE!!

I wonder why these hawks build their nests so big? Does anyone know? It was cool, because it seemed as though the hawk will use anything for building material. When I climbed up to the top of the nest, I saw that there was string, wrappers, and even, yes, a slipper (with a nice peace sign on it!).

Black Capped Chickadees at Morton Wildlife Reserve

Last week I visited Morton National Wildlife Reserve in Sag Harbor. It was the first time that I was ever there and it was an amazing experience to say the least.
Upon arriving these amazing little Black Capped Chickadees greeted me very warmly. And for the first time in my life, a bird actually landed on my finger. The little chickadee was probably expecting some seeds in my hand, but unfortunately I had none to offer. Next time, I’ll bring some — definitely.

I was actually surprised to see some of these in my backyard in East Patchogue. For some reason I mistakenly thought that they were only in pretty dense forests, but that’s not the case. Just about every day now I see them jumping around on a pine tree in my backyard.
